Dear friends of the Ontario Women’s History Network,
2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the Ontario Women’s History Network (OWHN) and we were initially planning to hold a special celebratory conference in October 2020 at OISE, UofT. However, due to the pandemic, we are will not be holding a conference this fall, and have decided instead to create a special commemorative project for our website, which will celebrate this important milestone, and as well, act as a repository for our 30-year history.
We are reaching out to all current and former members in order to ask that you consider sharing your memories, stories, photos, images, and documents that commemorate your experience, over the past 30 years, with OWHN. Our plan is to categorize the submissions into four groupings: Educators (primary, secondary, and post-secondary); Public Historians (museums, archives, etc.); Historical Researchers (popular, personal, and academic histories); and Community Resources (notable community supporters and speakers) however, understanding that individuals may fall into multiple categories. We also hope to use the material collected to help develop multiple thematic units such as women in the workplace, women in social justice movements and women’s studies education, that can be used by middle and secondary school teachers interested in incorporating women’s and gender history into their curricula. These units will be housed on the OWHN website, freely available for educators and students to use.
We welcome all submissions of stories, images, and any OWHN-related materials you may have. Please also consider reaching out to other members in your communities who you know were part of OWHN at some point in the past 30 years. Thank you for considering taking part in this commemorative project. Should you decide to submit your stories, photos or documents, please forward them to the following email address: email@example.com. Please plan to submit your materials by October 5, 2020
We look forward to hearing from you. Our hope is to launch this special commemorative project in autumn 2020.
